Demonstration of Competency
This is an example of professional and compassionate communication with a parent. The message increased parental involvement and coordinated efforts between home and school. In the case of example 2, I communicated with parents about a student causing distraction and safety issues in class. The student stopped bringing the items to school, and we resumed normal classroom activities.
In example 1, I communicated productively with this student’s parents. Something I could have done differently would have been to try to listen to the parents more than to explain where I’m coming from as a teacher. I didn’t directly answer his question about negative consequences because it doesn’t align well with my way of thinking. The parent, in this case, was trying to tell me to be more direct from the beginning.
